You must be thinking ‘Mm, mm. Doesn’t look like a turnip at all.’ No worries your amigurumi turnip will appear soon :) .

Completing the amigurumi turnip

Now to complete the turnip, start by threading the tail yarn to the other end of the turnip. Pull the thread until the turnip shape appears.

Find the ‘sharpest’ spot of the turnip and do a slip stitch somewhere around it.

Tada! Your awesome amigurumi turnip is almost done!

Turnip leaves

No turnip is complete without leaves right? ‘Absolutely!’ I can hear you say. If you don’t agree, too bad you’re behind the screen :P .

This bit is a bit tricky, so do try to understand the pattern before you start doing it.

Start with a slip knot, leaving a 4cm tail.
Row 1 – Ch7
Row 2 – (Skip the first ch) 6sl. [Do not bind off]
Row 3 – Ch 7
Row 4 – (Skip the first ch) 6sl [Do not bind off]
Row 5 – Ch 7
Row 6 – (Skip the first ch) 6sl [Do now Bind off]
Tricked you at the last part eh! :D . Leave a 4cm tail.

There are two ways you can do row 2 – Using slip stitches or single crochets. I like the slip stitches better as the leave turn out thinner. Single crochets on the other hand create thicker leaves. Pick whichever you like :) .

For a thinner and nice leave, go under the top two parts of the chain.

slip stitch position

Once you’re done here, do not bind off. Instead, chain 7 from here. After that, same as above, do 6 slip stitches. For the last row, chain 7 and 6 slip stitches, and do now bind off. Join the leaves together

Finishing touches

To finish off the amigurumi turnip, attach the leaves to the base. Loop it around the middle of the dent at the top of the turnip, and tie the two ends together.

Turnip leaf placement

You’ll notice that you still have many hanging around the amigurumi. Thread them through the turnip to any part, pull it a bit, and cut off the ends closest to the turnip. If it’s still obvious, stuff them back in with the end of your crochet hook or needle.

And you’re done! You can turn it into a cellphone charm and show off to your friends ;) .
